Ever since the Internets inception so many decades ago, the concept of privacy has been an issue. Fortunately, there are plenty of things that keep the government and outside, malevolent parties from reading your emails or knowing your search history. Then came SOPA and CISPA. While the Stop Online Piracy Act has been knocked down for the time being, the Cyber Intelligence and Sharing Protection Act has passed the House of Representatives. Twice. It hasnt made it past the Senate or White House, but the bill is still alive and kicking.
