Photographs of voters reviewed, malpractices found
Election officials have started reviewing the photographs of the voters who cast their vote in the recently-held Assembly elections in the state. Officials of the State Election authority and three ECI observers, who initiated the work of comparing the photographs since yesterday, reviewed the photographs of Chandel and Churachandpur districts at the Imphal West DC office today. Candidates, complainants and media were also allowed to witness the photo comparison works. Discrepancies were reported during the review of photographs of some parts of Chandel, Senapati and Kangpokpi, officials said. However, officials said the comparison of photographs can not be carried out for the entire state except for only about 35 polling stations from where the election authority received complaints. The ECI observers will complete the review work today, officials said. The report will be submitted to the ECI and the final decision on the matter will only be taken by the ECI. Repoll had to be ordered in 34 polling stations on February 4 following violent activities during polling on January 28, which claimed the lives of seven people, including a CRPF personnel.
