Violence, coercion, exploitation, deprivation are crimes that most women in India are acquainted with ' from tragically close quarters. Those who fight crimes against women tend to begin their war from a position of black against white. Understandably so, perhaps, but the black-and-white approach annihilates the possibility of nuances and of other perspectives. What is lost in the unceasing fight for a fair, civilized society free of sexual violence and exploitation is the vision of a healthy relationship among genders, or of a culture untouched by the horrors of sexual hatred. And with it are lost words and expressions that become loaded negatively in an unchanging context of remembered and possible violence.
